V'S SENIOR EDITOR PATRIK SANDBERG TRAVELED TO COPENHAGEN TO EXPERIENCE THE BEST THAT EMERGING SCANDINAVIAN DESIGNERS HAD TO OFFER. HERE ARE HIS FAVORITE COLLECTIONS
ANNE SOFIE MADSEN FALL/WINTER 2013
Perhaps it's more Norweigan than Danish, but there is something about being in nordic region (especially in the winter) that makes one think of death metal.
Designer Anne Sofie Madsen has built quite a following with her ethereal and detailed designs. One of her pieces even graces the cover of a new fashion tome released by Thames & Hudson, feted over the weekend at the Swedish consulate, fittingly titled Fashion Scandinavia.
For her Fall/Winter collection, monsters prevailed. Playing with heavy metal typefaces, tribal suede patterns embroidered over nude stretch mesh, and alien-like shaved fur sculpting, Madsen's collection was at once diabolical, feminine, strong, and eerie. H.R. Giger sprang to mind. So did the RPG-inspired Ren-faire fare from Rodarte, and the perverse girlieness of McQueen. A standout from the Scandinavian pack without question, it's only a matter of time before Madsen makes terrestrial contact with the global fashion map.
