For years now, it's been said that the Internet will inevitably be the death of print magazines. Now, that certainly has not been the case. New Yorkers love their magazines, and every time I travel to Berlin or Paris or Milan I discover a new publication or bookshop—Bookmarc, Colette, and Casa Magazine NYC are some of my favorites, but my latest exciting discovery is Document Journal. Founded by Editorial Director/Publisher Nick Vogelson and Creative/Fashion Director James Valeri, Document aims to establish itself as style for today through a lens of beauty and culture. The first issue features original covers by Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli, featuring supermodel Liya Kebed, photographed by Collier Schorr.
“We wanted to “Document” aesthetics in this moment in history, allowing people to sit down and enjoy different aspects of life on paper. Something collectible but not consumeristic, an intimate moment in this hectic life to discover, and be inspired by, things our readers are attracted to but not necessarily informed about. We wanted to create something inspirational for different kinds of people with a variety of aesthetics and backgrounds with a similar attraction: beauty. All of this with a point of view, current and nostalgic but also forward-looking," says James Valeri.
“People are ready for a new approach. Everything about Document will be different. It’s a wide-ranging platform for art, portraiture, men’s and women’s fashion, both looking forward, and cognizant of the past. Document moves easily between luxury and popular culture, and is astute, unexpected, minimal, and timeless,” says Nick Vogelson.
