THE ICONIC BRAND OPENS A FLAGSHIP IN NYC
On August 1st, Valentino opened a shiny new flagship located among its luxury friends at 693 Fifth Avenue. Designed by architect David Chipperfield in collaboration with the brand's creative directors, the 20,000 square foot brick-and-mortar uses some of the same aesthetics as other American Valentino locations while incorporating new elements, as seen in its modernist-style façade. The first of three floors houses accessories in an entirely new installation concept for the brand, while womenswear is displayed on the higher floors in different rooms distinguished by various design elements in the clothes.
Of the store's design, Chipperfield says, “Valentino has identified architecture as the idea for the interior whereby architecture is brought into the store in a process that reduces the superficial decoration by steering away from the use of panelling — an approach that privileges concreteness over shallowness."
