WIFE—AKA JAMES KELLY—BRINGS AN INJECTION OF UNEXPECTED ELECTRO INTIMACY TO HIS NEWEST MUSIC VIDEO, AND VMAN.COM IS PREMIERING IT HERE.
July 3rd, 2014. To some, Irish singer-songwriter James Kelly is better known for having revolutionized the black metal scene with his band Altar of Plagues. Now that the critically-acclaimed group has disbanded though, Kelly has decided to bring his love affair with eclectic beats to the surface in solo mode.
Under the stage name WIFE, Kelly released his debut album What's Between last month. In it, he explores the kaleidoscopic world of pop through throbbing techno beats clashing with elegiac pastoral atmospherics (the title is a reflection of the emotional and physical space between two people, emphasized in the album’s dualities between light and dark, aggression and softness.)
Kelly's first video, 'Heart Is A Far Light', created as a collaboration between himself, photographer/director Fiona Garden and prize winning UK artist Ben Ashton, exquisitely matches the track with bursting creationist references (a Zeus-esque chest is ready to be crucified, two hands echo Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam"). Featuring a closely filmed male model's contracting muscles with Kelly's face occasionally appearing, the ambiance is intimate, sensual and raw.
