IF YOU WEREN'T SURE FKA TWIGS HAD STAYING POWER, WATCH HER NEWEST VIDEO FOR "TWO WEEKS" AND REEVALUATE
June 24th, 2014. After "Water Me"'s runaway success, FKA Twigs has everyone's attention: indie music aficionados admire her firm grip on trip-hop's revival, comparing her collaborative work with Arca and Inc. to Aphex Twin and Portishead; New York's downtown scene is impressed by her vogue-like movements and spot-on style; and fashion photographers are of course enchanted with her doll-like face and petite proportions. After the world hears her first full-length album, LP1 (Young Turks, August 12th) though, her charm will truly surface—the lyrics, like those in "Two Weeks" (the gorgeous video of which premiered today, above) are equal parts tough and sensitive, as in, "I know it hurts. You know I'd quench that thirst... Get that mouth open, you're high. Higher than a motherfucker..."
FKA Twigs refreshingly emotional and acutely observant—plus knows what she wants. Like hearing Sinéad O'Connor's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, hearing LP1 (perhaps especially this track, because of its blatant sexiness) is a trip into a new and complex psyche, one from which we haven't heard enough of yet.
