IT'S APRIL 2014 AND YOU'RE NOT SET ON A SINGLE LOOK FOR YOUR BEACH VACATION/POOLSIDE PARTY/ROOFTOP TAN SESSIONS THIS SUMMER. LUCKILY, A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE CELEBRITIES HAVE BEEN ALL AROUND THE WORLD (AND ACTIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA) BEFORE US AMERICANS SAW THE SUN, AND THEY'VE GIVEN US SOME IDEAS FOR SWIMWEAR SEASON

Bathing suits are intimidating. The worst, really. And we have it on good authority that even the women you aspire to look like feel the same way. The difference between us and them is, they're pretty much forced to suck it up (literally) and show some skin even on their worst days, on stage and off. At least no one is searching with a telescopic lens for cellulite on your thighs, right? The secret the stars have taught us is in this time of zero privacy is to, when all else fails, own it. Yes, some have been found out as “flaws and all” fakers: not all of those Instagrams happen instantaneously; a few take a trip through Photoshop first. But many, like our current cover star Lorde, have embraced the #nofilter approach to selfie-ing. Everyone has something about themselves they wish would go away, but that might just be the thing someone else wishes they had, so why not pretend you're obsessed with it, too?
You might expect a leggy girl like Miley Cyrus to wear a boycut bikini bottom to lengthen her torso, but we've only seen her pantyline get higher and higher on her Bangerz tour, adding sleeves and even shoulder pads to her leotards. It's obvious where she wants all that attention to end up. Skimping on the lower half of an otherwise complicated outfit lead the eyes from the top down (be careful what you wish for, girls!).
Lady Gaga is not a tall woman. In fact, she's tiny. But she's made a career out of projecting her large personality from her petite frame, and doing so with flare. We love the bubbly mermaid-like looks she's been crafting for her ARTPOP tour because they allow for plenty of skin, sparkles and frills, but their classic burlesque-esque shapes allow for structure, too, and end up looking (almost) comfortable.
Béyonce has in recent performances gone the way of the aforementioned ladies by embellishing the upper half of her body and leaving the lower almost bare. Via her Instagram, though, we're noticing a sea change. It looks like ***Flawless Béy is spending some time appreciating the simpler things in married life, like form-fitting two-pieces with conservative cuts.
Iggy Azalea is well aware of her most astonishing asset, and she isn't afraid to announce it. The cuts she chooses accentuate her bottom-heavy body by flattening out her chest and letting the rest stretch: See her instagram full of custom Alexander Wang and Dolce & Gabbana, and hardly a solid color.
Lorde can speak for her generation when she shows the world her zit-cream, her less-flattering performance photographs, and her frustrations with her newfound fame. It’s hard being a teenager in 2014, surrounded by every form of recording device! She can also, as she's been doing recently, show off her teenaged midriff while on tour. The accidental style icon tries to show social media more dirt than skin, but in so doing she’s launched a look you're sure to notice this summer, complete with purple lipstick and ocean-washed hair.
Star of The Other Woman Kate Upton is used to being taken at face value. It's hard to emphasize the one trait you wish everyone would notice about you if that trait happens to be your brains and you happen to be a buxom blonde bombshell. Not that the Florida native shies away from swimwear, which is, after all, what launched her career. When it's up to her, though, she goes for the classic cuts famous hourglass-shaped vixens have glamorized in the past, helping to bring back the “more is more” appeal V have always loved.
