BALENCIAGA'S NEW SOHO HOME

Tomorrow, November 22nd, Balenciaga opens their NYC flagship store in SoHo (just down the street from V HQ!). This store marks the first architecture and design expression under the artistic direction of Alexander Wang, and the signature is legible. Resembling Wang's first collection for the house, a fine-veined marble is everywhere, granting the garments and the space a welcome weightiness. The boutique is comprised of intimate salons dedicated ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes, jewelry, eyewear, and fragrances, respectively. The interiors, created by Wang in collaboration with designer Ryan Korban, "draws inspiration from the historical heart of the House at 10 Avenue George V and the artistic DNA established by Cristóbal Balenciaga," using forest green marble, limestone, suede, cracked resin, poured concrete, and embroidered upholstery. Besides the material elements, the sheer size of this store is what brings to mind that classic Balenciaga salon style. Here in downtown Manhattan, we're used to making the most of small spaces, but clearly, Alexander Wang (as we've seen in his namesake store, also nearby), cherishes a luxurious square footage to accomodate his luxury brands. The Balenciaga NY Flagship Boutique is located at 148 Mercer St., New York, NY 10012
