V CAUGHT UP WITH THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF VALENTINO AFTER HE INTRODUCED NEW YORK TO HIS NEW BOOK, PRIVATE: GIANCARLO GIAMMETTI AT PARSONS, AND RECIEVED SOME PLEASANT NEWS
I wanted to first congratulate you on tonight. It was a major success! How do you feel?
Giancarlo Giammetti Oh! I want to start again. I loved it.
The audience loved it as well.
GG It is special, you know. Especially for me, it is special for me to be in the middle of such of an event. First of all, to be with such an intelligent person next to me is amazing. He [Simon Collins, Dean of the School of Fashion, Parsons The New School For Design] made me feel really relaxed and everything. And I loved the audience. People are what I'm always looking for.
What is the fashion climate like right now for new designers?
GG The industry really can support the talent. When somebody asks me, what should a designer do without money, I say, find the money. And the industry is ready for that. That's what I was trying to say on stage earlier tonight. New York is full of people who want to help. There's the CFDA, but not just that. There's people like Bergdorf Goodman. People who help people with talent. But you have to have talent, which nobody gives you, if you don't have.
Do you think you can work for it?
GG It's a lot within you when you are born.
What is your goal with the release of the book and the photos
GG I want to do a book for me. And then, if people enjoy seeing the changes in those fifty years, of course I will enjoy that. I will enjoy it with them as well. I guess it's interesting because in the book I'm speaking about and sharing so many things the young people don't know and that older people want to remember.
Last question, V Magazine—do read it often?
GG Of course. It's my favorite.
