OUR HALLOWEEKEND(S) COVERAGE CONTINUES WITH A BRIGHT WHITE RAVE IN THE MIDDLE OF BROOKLYN, PUT ON BY MERMAIDS AND ATTENDED BY ANGELS
October 28th, 2013. Have you ever been immersed in an ocean of white? V have, after Sensation's 100th Show at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center this past weekend, and we have to say, there's nothing else quite like it. We've been to (and thrown) some of the most amazing Halloween parties, plus we're familiar with restrictive dress codes, underwater themes, and huge EDM shows. But bring all these elements together, and you get a totally unique experience that's not quite a rave, not quite a stadium show, and sort of what every frat party dreams of being (complete with Victoria's Secret Angels Doutzen Kroes and Adriana Lima), but also a haven for some freaks and weirdos of all ages—seriously! It takes all kinds to fill an ocean. We talked to visitors from all over the East coast and Europe, in New York for one night, on a mission to feel the sensation.
The star DJs of the evening were Sunnery James (Doutzen's husband) & Ryan Marciano, but the real star was the dissembodied voice announcing each segment, from the countdown to the intro to the dance routines. At one point, giant fabric balloons lit with pulsing colors bounced over the audience, a row of models strutted the runway in Chalayan-like bubble bikinis, and this announcer informed us that "pearls come from a mermaid's tail, and have the unique ability to reflect the color of your soul."
Honestly, after seven hours in this jellyfish bloom, writhing bodies like blank canvases for the reflection of lazer lights and colorful fountains, a beat that only stops for an epic drop, and fireworks and confetti cannons blasting away indoors like nothing, we could start to believe almost any suggestion made by a voice from above.
