THIS NOVEMBER, MARIO TESTINO TAKES US TO PERU—AND WE CAN USE A VACATION, EVEN IF IT'S ONLY A FEW CITY BLOCKS AWAY
From November 20th, 2013 through March 29th, 2014, at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute on Park Avenue in New York City, you'll be able to enter a warm climate in the midst of this dreary season. Acclaimed fashion photographer Mario Testino's upcoming exhibition, "ALTA MODA" documents Peruvians in a vibrantly eclectic array of their own traditional and customized colorful clothing from Cusco—the location where tourists and Hollywood stars are usually fed cocaine-laced tea by the locals to handle the massive altitude change in the midst of Machu Picchu's mountainous regions.
The photo series is as stylishly Testino as ever (even without his stable of top models and celebrities). The vibrant colors and movement in each image tells a story on its own, but you can buy the accompanying essays by Testino himself and Hamish Bowles, if you need some more text for context.
"ALTA MODA" will be accompanied by a series of public programs. Please check www.qssi.org for a schedule of events.
