It is clear that Lady Gaga's loyalty for our founder, editor in chief, and creative director Stephen Gan knows no bounds (and vice versa). On Friday, she attended the first ever Fashion Media Awards (hosted by The Daily Front Row and its editor in chief Brandusa Niro—click here to watch the video) to present Stephen with an award for Fashion Magazine of the Year. The very next night, Gaga honored Gan again with an intimate performance at Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village. It was the perfect setting for an ARTPOP invasion. Images from our four September covers and four cover stories, taken by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin (both in attendance), caused quite a stir among the VIP set. (Actress Rose McGowan was even reenacting one of the more provocative poses by the bar.) An all-star cast of friends and V contributors including Carine Roitfeld, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Terry Richardson, Sebastian Faena, Courtney Love, Daphne Guinness, Jeremy Scott, Jessica Alba, James Franco, Paris and Nicky Hilton as well as Yoko Ono came out to support Stephen and see Gaga perform "Aura," "Artpop," "Swine," "Jewels And Drugs," "Sex Dreams," and "Applause," from her forthcoming album.
It was nearly 1AM when the pop icon appeared in a red flannel shirt, teeny clamshell bikini, dark aviators and sparkly heeled boots but it was clear from the second she stepped on stage that it was worth the wait. The performance was a mesmerizing blur of that hair, those sparkles, Gaga's super talented band and backup dancers, and her own unmistakably original moves. Emotions ran high when our Mother Monster again thanked Gan for her covers, for his support, and for her introduction into the fashion world. It was as if each song was more passionately played than the last, until the inevitable end, when her dancers carried Gaga away, kicking and laughing... and we gave her that thing that she loves (applause, of course).
