ARTIST, MULTIMEDIA SPECIALIST, AND CULTURAL WHIZ DOUG AITKEN ANNOUNCES HIS LATEST AMBITIOUS PROJECT, IN WHICH "FOR A SHORT TIME, THE MOST INTERESTING PLACE IN THE COUNTRY WILL BE A MOVING TARGET."
There's a happening about to happen. Actually, there are several happenings. But together, they are kind of one big happening, if you think about it. But anyway—it's HAPPENING. Artist Doug Aitken has announced the latest in his career of ambitious concepts, paid for by Levi's, called STATION TO STATION.
Throughout the month of September, a train will make ten stops between New York and San Francisco, each with a site-specific happening featuring a variety of artists and performers including Ariel Pink, Kenneth Anger, Urs Fischer, No Age, Rick Moody, Twin Shadow, Carsten Höller, Jack Pierson, and many more.
Described as a "kinetic sculpture" and a "cultural studio," the epic ride will raise money for art programs and museums across the U.S. of A. Of course, everything will also be documented.
A statement from the artist reads: "This is a fast moving cultural journey, a constant search over the new horizons of our changing culture. Grounded in some basic questions—Who are we? Where are we going? And, at this moment, how can we express ourselves?—our intention is to create a modern cultural manifesto."
