08.08.07 RALLY AMERICA: THE VIDEO
In May, Evan Yurman and co. cruised from NYC to New Orleans in a Porsche GT3. Now it's all on film

When Evan Yurman, the son of American jewelry icon David Yurman's, revamped his father's classic Belmont watch, he did what most Porshe-loving jewelry designers ready for an adventure would do to celebrate: he bought himself a GT3, pimped it out with some DY logos, and organized a three-day road trip with some buddies to New Orleans. As is the case with most long journeys lead by "fast-driving asshole New Yorkers" (as we were so lovingly termed by the Virginia State Highway Patrol), the rally was chock full of excitement: only one speeding ticket, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Graceland, New Orleans' Bourbon Street, and more fried food than you can shake a clogged artery at. Recording it all was Ku-Ling Siegel, a filmmaker more accostumed
to documentaries about poets and artists than 20-something city-slickers trying to break the sound barrier on rural Southern interstates. Here she has spliced together some of her favorite moments of the Yurman Rally 2007. So take a few minutes and join Evan Yurman, Dan Martensen, and I for a winding trip down to Louisiana. In the words of the Yurman fans who flocked to Evan's personal appearance in New Orleans (and what has since become the battle cry of the journey): "DY FOR LIFE!"
